The lake has an irregular shape, and its waters flow gently eastward into the Limay River. The lake is home to salmon and trout, offering fishing opportunities for visitors. It is surrounded by snow-capped mountains and lush forests, presenting spectacular scenery. The lake area is well-developed for tourism, with motorboats available to reach various islands and roads connecting it to cities such as Neuquén.
The best time to visit Nahuel Huapi Lake National Park is from early November to the end of March the following year. Nearby, Mount Tronador stands at 3,574 meters. Its name comes from the Spanish word for "thunder," referring to the thunderous sounds produced by the falling glaciers and fierce winds at its summit.
