Huangshan Yuping Scenic Area
Yuping Scenic Area is located in the eastern part of Huangshan Mountain, at an altitude of only 890 meters. It is a relatively low-lying and slightly open valley. During the Song Dynasty, the Prime Minister Cheng Yuanfeng once studied here, hence the area was called Prime Minister’s Valley. In the Ming Dynasty, the scholar Fu Yan wandered here and, at the request of the Dianbo Zen monk, inscribed the two characters “Yun Gu” (Cloud Valley), after which the monastery was renamed “Yun Gu Temple.” Over time, Yun Gu Temple became the name of the place we know today. The main attractions of Yuping include Yuping Villa, ancient trees, peculiar rocks, the “Nine Dragon Waterfall,” and the “Hundred Zhang Spring.”
