Nan Nieshui Stone Carvings (First Batch of Provincial-Level Protected Heritage)

Nan Nieshui is situated on the southern bank of the Nieshui River, a tributary of the Zhanghe River in Qinxian County, hence the name Nan Nieshui. In the autumn of 1957, a large number of stone carvings stored in kilns were excavated and cleared here. Named after their place of discovery, they are called “Nan Nieshui Stone Carvings.”
These stone carvings and statues, according to inscriptions and votive texts, date from the third year of the Yongping era (510 AD) to the ninth year of the Tiansheng era of the Northern Song Dynasty (1031 AD), spanning various dynasties including the Eastern Wei, Northern Qi, Sui, and Tang. The collection mainly consists of statue pagodas, numbering about 400 pieces, followed by individual statues, statue steles, etc. The quantity is large, the content rich, the carving exquisite, and the characteristics of the different periods distinct.
