Bifeng Mountain, also known as Erlang Mountain, is situated to the south of Qinxian County. With its main peak rising 1,028 meters above sea level, the area boasts layered peaks, verdant forests, and a network of valleys, presenting a majestic landscape. The mountain earned the name Bifeng (Pen Peak) because it towers above the old city wall and faces directly toward the Lingxing Gate of the former Confucian school within Qinzhou City, symbolizing culture and learning. It is also called Erlang Mountain due to the local legend of “Erlang Carrying Mountains to Chase the Sun,” which he reportedly failed to complete. The scenic area features several attractions, including the Nanieishui Stone Carving Exhibition Hall — the largest folk stone carving museum in China — the Monument to the Vanguard in Defending Chairman Mao, Yongqing Temple, the Shanxi Sacrificial Alliance and Decisive Death Squad Memorial Hall, the Shanxi Sacrificial Alliance and Decisive Death Squad Memorial Forest, Erlang Mountain Forest Park, and the Imperial Study Building inscribed by Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty. The Zhang River flows from north to south around the mountain, with West Lake lying at its foot. The beautiful Qinxian County is nestled by West Lake, creating a picturesque setting where Bifeng Mountain and West Lake complement each other amid shimmering lake light, mountain hues, pine shadows, winding paths, corridors, terraces, and pavilions — making it an exceptional destination for sightseeing.
