La Boca Tango Street
La Boca is the first port district of Buenos Aires. At the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, a large number of European immigrants settled here, mainly from Genoa, Italy. The area is famous for tango, tango houses (milongas), and cafes, and is one of the birthplaces of tango in Buenos Aires. From food flavors to architectural styles, it is rich with Mediterranean charm.

Caminito is the most representative street in La Boca. Following the suggestion of Argentine painter Benito Quinquela Martín, the buildings on both sides of the street were painted in local iconic colors, creating a colorful scene, and the street was named “Caminito,” which is the diminutive form of the Spanish word “Camino” (path/street), conveying a sense of intimacy. The walls along the street feature many bas-reliefs by Argentine artists. In 1959, the government turned this street into a “pedestrian street museum,” allowing visitors to stroll through and enjoy a strong artistic atmosphere.
