Residential Buildings on Huiji Street
The residential buildings on Huiji Street are situated in Chengnan Neighborhood Committee, Decheng Subdistrict Office. In 2001, they were listed as cultural heritage sites by the People’s Government of Deqing County. Located in the central area of the old town, Huiji Street is a well-known thoroughfare since the establishment of the county seat. Running east-west, it starts from the middle section of Tongjin North Road in the east and extends to the intersection at the middle of Jiefang Middle Road in the west, with a total length of about 210 meters and a width varying between 2.8 to 3.4 meters. The buildings along the street are mostly clan residences, belonging to families with surnames such as Liang, Lu, Dai, Shi, Luo, and Li. There is also a Christian church built in the late Qing Dynasty. The residences are primarily constructed with blue bricks, wood, and stone in the traditional “wok ear” house style, characteristic of Qing Dynasty architecture. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, especially in recent years, many of these structures have undergone renovation or reconstruction. However, nearly 30 ancient homes from the Qing and Republican periods still remain, retaining the ambiance of the old street. The residential buildings on Huiji Street hold significant value for the study of ancient streets and residences from the Qing and Republican eras.
