Naozhang Site (Third Batch Provincial Protected Site)

      Era: Neolithic Age

Location: Southeast of Naozhang, Xiwai Village, Xijia Township, six kilometers south of Tunliu County

The site is located on flat terrain, connected to Dongwei Village in the east, bordering Situ in the south, backed by Cuiping Mountain in the north, and encircled by the Yuxi River. It covers a total area of approximately 77,500 square meters. Cultural layers can be observed in the exposed cliffs and on the ground within the site, containing large amounts of ash soil and pottery shards. The pottery shards are predominantly gray pottery, decorated mainly with cord and basketry patterns. Identifiable artifacts include the feet of Neolithic pottery li tripods, rims of pottery jars, stone shovels; as well as pottery bean stems and bean trays from the Shang and Zhou periods, and common Han Dynasty thin-cord-patterned pottery jars and polished pottery fragments. The overall cultural layer is about 0.5 to 2.0 meters thick. In addition, the protected area of the site contains a large number of ancient tombs from the Warring States and Han periods.

Naozhang Site is a provincial-level key cultural relics protection unit.
