Monkey Garden
The Monkey Garden: The "Monkey Garden" was originally built in the 1930s as a Sino-Western style building, including a conference room, guesthouse, and other facilities. On April 9, 1941, Chiang Kai-shek and his son Chiang Ching-kuo met with General Zhang Xueliang, who was imprisoned in Qilin Cave, here and stayed overnight. After the liberation, this place once served as the temporary office of the Guiyang Municipal People's Government. In 1957, when Qianling Park was established, this area was placed under the park’s management. In 1985, the government invested in renovating the site, demolishing the original guesthouse and adding corridors and pavilions with distinctive Chinese garden features for visitors to rest and enjoy the scenery. Later, the park conducted research on releasing wild macaques into the area. After more than ten years of dedicated effort, the project succeeded. The number of macaques grew from just over 20 to now five main groups totaling more than 300, forming a rare and delightful spectacle. Here, visitors can enjoy the unique pleasure of interacting with the monkeys, making it an experience that is hard to forget.
