Shrine of Yin Daozhen

The Shrine of Yin Daozhen is located to the right of Fufeng Temple, adjacent to the former site of the qin chamber in Fufeng Temple, and faces Yangming Shrine across the temple grounds. It was built to commemorate Yin Daozhen, an educator from the Eastern Han Dynasty.

The Shrine of Yin Daozhen was first constructed in the 5th year of the Republic of China (1916). It consists of a main hall, corridors, side rooms, and a theater building, forming a two-level, unified quadrangle complex. The original main hall housed a memorial tablet for Yin Daozhen, with a horizontal plaque inscribed in seal script reading “Virtue Combined with Education and Nurture,” written by Hong Liangji, the Qing Dynasty’s education commissioner of Guizhou, in the 58th year of Qianlong (1793). The entrance features a moon-gate style door, inscribed with the stone-carved text “Shrine of Mr. Yin Daozhen,” written by the renowned Qing figure Kang Youwei. Originally, there were two ancient cypress trees within the quadrangle courtyard. During the Cultural Revolution, the shrine suffered severe damage, all cultural relics were destroyed, and the two ancient cypresses were also cut down. It has now been restored to its original appearance.

On the walls of the main hall, there are displays featuring a group of scientists and cultural figures who represent a constellation of talent in modern Guizhou history: Sun Ying’ao, Qiu Heshi, Xie Sanxiu, Yang Wencong, Zhou Yubang, Chen Fa, Zheng Zhen, Mo Youzhi, Ding Baozhen, Li Duanrong, Li Shuchang, Yan Yinliang, Zhao Yijiong, Xia Tonghe, Zhu Qiqian, Yao Hua, Ren Kecheng, Huang Qisheng, Zhou Changshou, Xie Liuyi, Yue Sen, Ding Daoheng, Xiong Yi, and Luo Chuncan—totaling 24 individuals, along with their portraits and biographical introductions.

On September 12, 1997, the Guiyang Municipal People’s Government designated the Shrine of Yin Daozhen as a municipal-level cultural relics protection unit.
