Among the waterfalls in Lushui County, the Yin-Yang Mountain Waterfall, located 24 kilometers from Liuku, is the most spectacular. It lies within the Gaoligong Mountain Nature Reserve and consists of two waterfalls. The Yin Mountain Waterfall, which never receives direct sunlight, cascades endlessly down from high peaks with a drop of over 180 meters. The Yang Mountain Waterfall has a drop of 255 meters and a width of 5 meters. The water is launched outward from the top of the falls before plummeting violently, with the roaring sound echoing through the valley and audible for miles. The Yin and Yang Mountain Waterfalls converge at an altitude of 2300 meters to 2000 meters from their sources. The rushing waters create an extremely magnificent sight, making it the waterfall with the greatest drop in the province. The two waterfalls are less than 200 meters apart, and not far downstream, the streams merge into one before flowing into the Nujiang River, hence earning the reputation of “Eternal Couple.” The cliffs below the waterfalls feature steep, jagged peaks surrounded by lush primeval forests with towering ancient trees. Especially after heavy snowfall, the large rhododendron trees take on bizarre shapes. When blooming season arrives, the mountains resemble a huge floral basket. No matter the season (the waterfall water remains crystal clear).
