Black Tiger Pine
One of the Ten Famous Pines of Huangshan, included in the World Heritage List. It grows on the slope down from the Bai’e Ridge Cable Car Station to the fork leading to Shixin Peak, at an altitude of 1,650 meters. Legend has it that a high monk in Lion Grove once entered deep meditation and saw a black tiger lying atop a pine tree. When he later searched for the tiger, he found no trace of it—only an ancient pine, tall and sturdy, with majestic branches exuding a fierce aura, its dense, nearly black green canopy resembling a black tiger lying on the hillside. Hence, it was named “Black Tiger Pine.” The ancient pine stands tall and vigorous, with impressive, powerful branches and a majestic presence. Its dense, dark green crown resembles a black tiger resting on the slope. The tree is 15 meters tall, and its canopy covers a projected area of 100 square meters. It is estimated to be around 700 years old.
