Floating Hill Peak
Introduction     Floating Hill Peak is one of the 36 major peaks, with an elevation of 1,683 meters. Legend has it that the ancestor of the Chinese nation, the Yellow Emperor (Xuanyuan), along with his left and right ministers—Rongchengzi and Master Floating Hill—traveled from afar to Mount Yi (now Huangshan) to gather stones for alchemy, a process that lasted 480 years. They eventually attained enlightenment and ascended to heaven. It is said that Floating Hill Peak was once the leisure spot of Master Floating Hill, hence its name. It also has other aliases such as “Sedan Roof Peak,” and is commonly known as “Bamboo Hat Tip.” However, it is a different mountain from another “Sedan Roof Peak” located along the Songgu Trail.     At the summit of Floating Hill Peak lies the Floating Hill Immortal Altar. A bit lower down is the Floating Hill Temple, and further below that was the Floating Hill Taoist Monastery (destroyed during the Tang Dynasty’s Zhonghe era). Below the peak is the Floating Hill Spring (also known as Five Clouds Spring), from which flows a stream called the “Floating Hill Stream” (also referred to as “Floating Stream”), which flows southward for thirty to fifty li before joining the Cao Gong Stream.
