Sleeping Giant Garden
The Sleeping Giant Garden (Garden of the Sleeping Giant) is situated at the foot of the Nausori Highlands in Fiji, not far north of Nadi. It was originally a private garden established in 1977 by American actor Raymond Burr, famous for his role as the "wheelchair detective." Initially, the garden was not well known, but over time, with the increasing number of tropical orchids planted within it, the Sleeping Giant Garden has now become one of the most popular tourist attractions on Fiji.

Although the Sleeping Giant Garden is famous for its orchids, its interesting structural form is also quite captivating. From a distance, the entire garden resembles the facial outline of a giant with deep features, lying on his back with a large belly characteristic of locals, fast asleep under the open sky — hence the name of the garden.

Spanning 20 hectares, this botanical garden is home to approximately 2,000 different varieties of orchids, including some rare, endemic Fijian species, making it the largest orchid garden in Fiji. In addition, the garden also cultivates many tropical plants, along with thirty to forty kinds of precious Asian lotuses. Strolling along the naturally scenic country paths of the Sleeping Giant Garden, surrounded by jungle and dotted with large lotus ponds that shine like jewels, visitors can enjoy fragrant walkways, vibrant and graceful orchids in all colors and shapes — an absolute feast for the senses.
