Ancient Battlefield of the Taiping Rebellion
Located in the area around Duyaoshan Mountain at the border between Luoxiu Town and Zhongping Town in Xiangzhou County, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Approximately 102 kilometers from Liuzhou City. Historically known as the "Battle of Duyaoshan," it was one of the most famous early battles of the Taiping Rebellion. This is where the Renyi River meets the Longgong River, with the solitary peak of Duyaoshan standing between the two rivers. On May 21, 1851, Hong Xiuquan led over ten thousand Taiping troops northward to Zhongping. In early June, Qing deputy commander Ulan Tai brought four thousand Guizhou soldiers from Luoxiu to occupy Duyaoshan. On the evening of June 7, Taiping forces sent seven brave soldiers across the river to harass the Qing troops. Caught off guard, the Qing soldiers turned on each other, and the Taiping army decisively defeated the Qing forces in the area of the Renyi River. Today, remnants such as cannon emplacements, Duyaoshi Temple, a pagoda, poetry couplets, and mural paintings can still be found on Duyaoshan.
