Bayreuth Festival Theatre

The Bayreuth Festival Theatre is situated in the small town of Bayreuth in Bavaria, southern Germany. It was specially designed and constructed for the complete staging of Richard Wagner’s work "Der Ring des Nibelungen" in 1871. With the financial support of his patron, King Ludwig II of Bavaria, the theatre was completed in 1876. In August of that year, the opening performance, the prelude to "Der Ring des Nibelungen" titled "Das Rheingold," premiered here. Guests included Emperor Wilhelm II of Germany, King Dom Pedro II of Brazil, King Ludwig II of Bavaria, as well as musicians Bruckner, Grieg, Tchaikovsky, and Liszt. The performance achieved unprecedented success, and the theatre quickly gained fame.
The Bayreuth Festival Theatre has 1,800 seats and was entirely designed to optimize the presentation of "Der Ring des Nibelungen." It is also the venue for the renowned Bayreuth Festival, which exclusively stages Wagner’s operas—a unique tradition found nowhere else in the world.
