Longde Temple Pagoda
  Era: Song Dynasty

Address: Located on Longfeng Mountain, east of Pujiang County, Jinhua City, Zhejiang Province

This pagoda was built in the ninth year of the Dazhong Xiangfu era of the Northern Song Dynasty (1016). At the foot of the peak, there was originally Longde Temple, from which the pagoda gets its name. It is a brick-and-wood structure in the pavilion style, with elegant design and exquisite craftsmanship. The brick-built pagoda body stands 36 meters tall, has seven stories and six sides, forming a hexagonal shape. Each of the six sides features an arched doorway about two meters high, with the six doorways facing each other—delicate and graceful. Originally, the exterior of the pagoda body had wooden eaves, balconies, bracket sets, upturned eaves, and flying corners stretching out into the air. The staircase penetrates through the pagoda walls, crossing inside and outside, repeatedly turning upwards, allowing visitors to climb up. At each corner of the pagoda’s exterior, hexagonal pillars are used, with lintels between the pillars. Central doorways are set, flanked by supporting pillars. Both the balconies and the lower eaves are adorned with bracket sets, carved beams and painted rafters, richly decorated, and appearing exceptionally majestic.

It underwent two major renovations: once in the third year of the Xuanhe era of the Northern Song Dynasty (1121), and again in the second year of the Baoyou era of the Southern Song Dynasty (1254). In the 29th year of the Yuan Dynasty's Zhiyuan era (1292), it was struck by lightning, causing the pagoda body to tilt slightly to the east, after which it was repaired again. During the Ming Dynasty’s Zhengtong era, it suffered a fire, and was later renovated again during the Wanli era. In 1979, the provincial cultural relics management committee allocated funds for its restoration, with all required pagoda bricks being produced locally according to the original dimensions. The pagoda base and finial were largely preserved in their original form. In 1981, the Pujiang County Party Committee and County Government decided to establish a pagoda hill park centered around the ancient pagoda at its base, making it a popular leisure and recreational destination for the people of Pujiang.
