Brasília Solar Chapel

  Introduction

The Brasília Solar Chapel features a design with concrete supports and glass walls, making it one of the brightest churches in the world. Its shape symbolizes people lifting up a cross together.

Unlike European churches, which are often adorned with various reliefs and have dim, mysterious interiors that create a solemn atmosphere, the Brasília Solar Chapel breaks from tradition. It has simple, clean lines, with bright lighting and spacious interiors that embody a modern feel. The main structure of the church is underground, while the visible "roof" above ground consists of dozens of parabolic columns bundled together, resembling from a distance a "crown" made of bird feathers worn by an indigenous Brazilian chief. The crown is surrounded by pools of water. When sunlight hits the water, the rippling reflections dance on the church’s glass windows, creating a flickering, mystical, yet enchanting ambiance inside.
