Shanping Village in Gaopo Township is about 39 kilometers from Huaxi District and 9 kilometers from the Gaopo Township government, bordering Huishui County. The village is situated on a highland plateau at an altitude of 1,500 meters, shrouded in clouds year-round, resembling a fairyland.
Shanping Village is a predominantly ethnic Miao settlement, with villagers belonging to the Red Hairpin Miao sub-group. Their distinctive Miao costumes, headdresses, and embroidery are vibrant and splendid; traditional activities such as Tiao Chang (village fair dance), Tiao Dong (cave dance), Lusheng dance, and the drinking of Ox Horn Wine are rich in cultural flavor; and there are also mysterious hanging coffin cave burials that silently tell the long history of the Miao people.
The village is nestled among green mountains, with most homes built from wood and topped with black tiles. Ancient trees shade the fronts and backs of houses, and the air is fresh, peaceful, and serene. The villagers are skilled in animal husbandry. The village raises its own black goats, which drink high-mountain mineral water and feed on green food, resulting in exceptionally tender and delicious meat. The cured meats produced here are golden and fragrant, highly favored by visitors.
