Due to the constriction and faulting, the river generates tremendous jet-like force downward, causing the Waikato River to cascade down in a foamy torrent. Hence, locals call this waterfall "Huka," which means foam in Māori. The surging water resembles the fierce blast of water shooting from a fire hose nozzle. The previously calm river roars down the valley and rapidly plunges into the 11-meter-deep turbulence of Huka Falls. The water bursts forth at nearly 220,000 liters per second. Standing above the falls, one cannot help but marvel at the awe-inspiring power of nature.
