Guiyang’s Aha Lake Wetland Park is located in the southwestern part of the city, covering four administrative districts: Huaxi, Nanming, Yunyan, and Guanshanhu. Built upon the existing Xiaocheshi Urban Wetland Park and integrating the Aha Reservoir wetland, this national-level wetland park spans a total area of 1,218 hectares, with 473 hectares of wetland, encompassing three types: rivers, marshes, and artificial wetlands. In January 2015, Aha Lake National Wetland Park passed inspection by the State Forestry Administration, becoming Guiyang’s first national wetland park.
The core scenic area of Aha Lake National Wetland Park, Xiaocheshi Wetland Park, was reconstructed from the foundation of Nanjiao Park, the Guiyang Nursery, and surrounding woodlands, covering a total area of 6 square kilometers. It features over 20 attractions, including Bixi Clouds, Falling Cherry Blossoms, and White Dragon Cave. The park includes large ecological parking lots, visitor service centers, educational exhibition halls, and educational corridors. Since its opening, it has welcomed more than 6 million visitors, with a single-day peak attendance exceeding 80,000. During the 2013 Eco-Forum Global in Guiyang, Xiaocheshi Wetland Park served as an ecological model site, receiving over 500 domestic and international guests, including 32 officials at the deputy ministerial level or above, earning widespread acclaim from leaders and attendees.
Attraction Highlights
Highlight 1: Cherry Blossom Avenue. Walking along the extension of Yan’an South Road toward the park entrance leads you to one of its main sights—a 100-meter-long Cherry Blossom Avenue.
Highlight 2: North Square of the Park. The north square of Xiaocheshi Urban Wetland Park spans over 20,000 square meters. Adjacent to Cherry Blossom Avenue and overlooking the Xiaocheshi River, the square is shaded by ancient trees, with vibrant flower beds forming a stunning sea of blossoms that reflect beautifully on the river—creating a picturesque scene.
Highlight 3: Wind-Rain Bridge. This is one of the park’s most unique attractions, built in the style of traditional Dong wind-rain bridges. The structure combines a bridge, corridor, and pavilion in one, stretching 43.8 meters long and 6 meters wide. The central pavilion features five levels, while the end pavilions have three, adorned with ethnic minority-themed murals depicting song and dance. Reportedly, over 130 wooden pillars, mostly fir with diameters up to 50 cm and lengths of 14 meters, were used. Nearby, there is also a Dong drum tower and Miao-style stilt houses. From the bridge, you can also enjoy scenic farmland vistas.
Highlight 4: Children’s Playground. Covering over 100,000 square meters, the playground offers ten thrilling rides, including Crazy Train, Kangaroo Jump, and Dream World, as well as attractions for children such as musical fountains, art studios, and DIY workshops.
Highlight 5: Mulan Grove. The standout feature of this spot is its expansive lawns, giving visitors the feeling of stepping onto a golf course—an exhilarating sight.
Highlight 6: Birdsong Valley. In Birdsong Valley, sitting in a small hut allows you to listen quietly to birdsong while savoring fragrant tea.
Highlight 7: Deep among Lotus Leaves. This area mainly consists of a leisure plaza and wetlands. Here, you can admire beautiful riverside scenery or enjoy fishing for the lake’s fresh catch.
Highlight 8: Watermill Time. A picturesque scene unfolds with cascading waterfalls, stone pathways, calm lakes, shallow beaches, old millstones, and lush woods.
Highlight 9: Flower Valley. This scenic valley is embraced by hills and graced by murmuring streams. Known for its diverse flora, when flowers are in full bloom, it becomes an ideal spot for wedding photography. Additionally, the windmills, greenhouses, and a sweet ancient spring well nearby add further charm.
Highlight 10: Wellness Center. The wellness center includes indoor swimming pools, badminton courts, and tennis courts, as well as six 5-a-side football fields and seven standard basketball courts.
