Among them, Qiaoshan Shenxian Cave is the only naturally formed limestone karst cave in the Huangshan region. It has two entrances, north and south, with a total length of 3,000 meters, of which about 1,500 meters have been developed. The cave follows an overall “S”-shaped route. Inside, it is divided into upper, middle, and lower levels, featuring caves within caves, underground rivers, varying elevations, and uneven widths. Meandering streams layer upon layer, interconnected passages twist and turn like a labyrinth. There are also mountains, water bodies, grand halls, corridors, pools, and cascading streams—truly a place where “every step reveals a unique sight, and every moment immerses you in a wondrous realm.”
The cave’s formations are named based on their shapes, characterized by seclusion, wonder, mystique, fantasy, and mystery. “Seclusion” refers to the serene and beautiful natural surroundings outside the cave, such as the thousand-acre “Fragrant Torreya Forest” and sea of clouds, which are soothing to the soul. “Wonder” describes the abundant, uniquely shaped, and vividly lifelike stalactites and stalagmites inside the cave, some resembling the scenic beauty of Huangshan or the fairyland of Penglai, others like the legendary immortals. Both ancient and modern visitors have marveled at their “mysterious and unfathomable nature, the illusions they create, and the feeling of stepping into a fairyland”—the lifelike imagery is truly breathtaking. “Mystique” refers to the realistic formations and numerous myths and legends that transport visitors into a mysterious world, while also inspiring awe at nature’s extraordinary craftsmanship. “Fantasy” arises from the sound of splashing water, musical-like in tone, creating swirling mists that evoke visions of a legendary fairyland. “Mystery” stems from the cave’s ancient geological origins. Based on certain findings within the cave and nearby dinosaur eggs, some speculate that it may date back to the Jurassic or Cretaceous periods of the Mesozoic Era. Scholars even suggest the possible presence of dinosaur or dinosaur egg fossils in or around the cave, though this remains to be confirmed. This has attracted numerous researchers and geology enthusiasts eager to uncover its secrets.
Natural Scenery Outside the Cave
The exterior features a thousand-acre Gongfei (Imperial Torreya) Forest, a millennium-old Torreya King tree, Monkey Chief (Taiping Houkui) tea plantations, misty peaks, and sea of clouds. The breathtaking scenery and refreshing air not only invigorate the spirit but also provide a natural oxygen bar for health and wellness, making it a place where many visitors linger and never want to leave.
Cultural Attractions
The village where the scenic area is located, Qiaoshan, is not only a producer of Gongfei (Imperial Torreya) but also one of the birthplaces of the world-renowned tea—“National Gift Tea” Taiping Houkui. Though the picking and processing of Torreya nuts and Houkui tea are intricate, they are also full of charm. Participating in these processes alongside local villagers has become a highlight for many visitors.
