Letan (Etan) Hydropower Station Reservoir Area
The Letan (Etan) Hydropower Station Reservoir Area features the majestic Hongshui River, which originates from the Nanpan River in Zanyi County, Yunnan Province, flows through Guizhou, and then enters Guangxi. It is the mother river and the “sun river” of the ethnic minority groups in Guangxi, predominantly the Zhuang people. The Hongshui River roars with fierce waters, rushing through deep mountains and perilous valleys, with steep cliffs on both banks. Its turbulent muddy currents crash against rocks, sending foamy waves surging skyward as it thunders toward distant peaks. The Hongshui River is one of China’s rare hydropower resources. The expanding Letan (Etan) Hydropower Station has an estimated investment of 3.97 billion yuan, an installed capacity of 600,000 kilowatts, and an annual power generation of 3.5 billion kilowatt-hours. It is one of the ten cascade hydropower stations along the Hongshui River.

Within the Letan Hydropower Station Reservoir Area, the untamed Hongshui River becomes tamed. The reservoir area features seamlessly integrated landscapes of mountains and water, with glistening waves. The river bends are graceful and charming, where water meets shore adorned with uniquely shaped rocks. Lush forests line both banks, with oddly formed green mountains that shift in appearance, creating an ever-changing view. Village reflections shimmer on the water’s surface, while the nearby mountains and waters are richly verdant, nourished by emerald-green mulberry fields. Taking in the entire scenic area, the river opens wide in some spots and twists narrowly in others, often evoking the feeling of “turning a corner only to find no path ahead, until the boat rounds a mountain and a new world unfolds.” Sailing on the river feels like being in an isolated paradise. The pure air and picturesque scenery are enchanting and uplifting.
