Luoyin Rock

Luoyin Rock is located at the western foot of Baihu Mountain, 0.25 kilometers west of Zhou’an Street in Gupeng Town. The rock is 6 meters high, 10 meters deep, and 6 meters wide. Legend has it that in the past, an immortal named Luo Yin once lived here, reading poetry by day and sleeping on the stone bed at night, hence he was called the “Reclining Immortal.” Therefore, this rock is also known as the Reclining Immortal Rock. Xu Hongzu (also known as Xiake), a famous geographer and traveler of the Ming Dynasty, visited and explored this rock on the 14th day of the second lunar month in the 11th year of the Chongzhen era (1638). He wrote in his Travel Diaries of Xu Xiake: “The rock is split horizontally like a bed. In the past, a scholar passing through here had no place to stay and took shelter inside. He inscribed a poem on the cliff, and later generations came to associate it with Luo Yin.” More than ten stone inscriptions of poems and writings by literati from the Ming and Qing dynasties can be found on both sides of the rock walls, including records of the suppression of the Bajia peasant uprising by Zhang Hu, the deputy commander-in-chief of the “Pacification of the Southwestern Barbarians” campaign. In 1984, the rock was listed as a county-level key cultural relic protection site.
