As early as 1925, the Oetker family made a noble proposal to the city of Bielefeld: they wished to fund the construction of a large concert hall for their hometown in memory of Dr. Rudolf Oetker, the son of the company's founder—who passed away in 1916 during World War I and was a music lover—and "the joy of living and the passion for musical art," as proclaimed on the writing board in the foyer.
The Rudolf-Oetker-Halle is an elegant, square-shaped, ivory-white cubic building with a simple yet grand design, which opened to the public in 1930. Renowned for its excellent acoustics and unique architectural structure, it is recognized as one of the most beautiful concert halls in Europe. This highly acclaimed venue for classical music also hosts a variety of musical and other cultural events, as well as the annual Bielefeld International Dance Festival every summer, attracting a large number of arts and culture enthusiasts.
