The theatre was expanded in 1927. Gerhart Hauptmann, the winner of the 1912 Nobel Prize in Literature, often visited, and the theatre bore his name until 1988—a name some locals still use today. Its most recent renovation took place in 2002, when the audience seating was refurbished and equipped with advanced technology to enable live translation. The theatre frequently hosts premieres and performances by the Lausitz Symphony Orchestra. Görlitz Theatre regularly collaborates with nearby theatres in Bautzen and Zittau to enrich its program offerings. Additionally, it works with theatres in Zgorzelec, Poland, to stage performances in Polish. Ticket prices are moderate, ranging from €10 to €25, depending on seat location and performance type.
