Longjiang Academy is the site of the first meeting between Comrade Mao Zedong and Comrade Zhu De, as well as the former site of the Officers' Training Corps of the Workers' and Peasants' Revolutionary Army. In March 1961, the State Council listed this site as a Major Historical and Cultural Site Protected at the National Level.
Longjiang Academy was first built in 1840 AD, funded by donations from gentry and residents of Hakka origin from the original Ninggang, Lingxian, and Chaling counties. It also served as the highest educational institution for the Hakka people of those three counties at the time.
The academy backs onto Wuhuling and faces the Longjiang River, hence its name. The entire academy is divided into three sections—middle, front, and rear—covering an area of over 2,000 square meters, with more than 100 rooms in total, 42 of which still remain. It is built with a brick-and-wood structure.
