Wuyi Mountain Sun-drying Cloth Rock

Sun-drying Cloth Rock is situated at the foot of Tianyou Peak, north of Liuyu Stream. It is a massive cliff face, as sheer as if cut by a knife or an axe, standing upright, broad and flat, reaching a height of 400 meters and stretching approximately 200 meters in width. It resembles a huge screen, separating the Wuyi Mountain Scenic Area into the southern hillside and the northern streamside. In the middle of the cliff, there are palm-like marks on the rock face, with dozens of rows exceeding a length of over three meters. Legend has it that these were left by immortals, hence Sun-drying Cloth Rock is also known as “Fairy Palm Peak.” Over time, the constant flow of water has eroded the rock, leaving hundreds of smooth grooves running straight down its surface. When the slanting western sunlight shines upon the cliff, the grooves become even more distinct. Looking down into the stream, one sees their shadows immersed beneath the water, swaying with the waves, like numerous black and white snakes darting up from the bottom. On rainy days, rainwater cascades straight down the cliff along those grooves, as if countless white silk ribbons are hanging unspooled from the sky, or thousands of silver dragons are dancing—it's truly a spectacular sight.
