Qutan Temple on Xishan Mountain
Qutan Temple on Xishan Mountain is situated in Kupingcao Group, Xishan Village, Xishan Township, Xifeng County. It was listed as a county-level cultural relics protection unit in 1984 and is one of the Eight Great Temples of Xishan. Originally built in the 16th year of the Shunzhi era (1659) during the Qing Dynasty by the monk Qutan, it underwent renovations by Monk Miaokong in the 6th year of the Yongzheng era (1728) and again in the 16th year of the Qianlong era (1751). In the 9th year of the Jiaqing era (1804), Monk Daolin further reconstructed the temple, forming a relatively large architectural complex. The temple was destroyed during the war in the Xianfeng and Tongzhi eras of the Qing Dynasty, but was later rebuilt during the Guangxu era. During the collective period, it served as a grain storage facility, and then in the 1980s, due to years of neglect, the upper, middle, and lower halls gradually collapsed. Today, only a wooden structure — the side room of the lower hall — remains. This ancient temple, having withstood centuries of history, holds significant value for the study of Buddhist culture and local history.
