Shi Nai'an Memorial Hall

A national AA-level tourist attraction, located on North Street in Baiju Town, Dafeng City. Legend has it that in the 26th year of the Zhi Zheng era of the Yuan Dynasty (1366), Shi Nai'an (1296–1371) fled the chaos of war. Along with his student Luo Guanzhong, he braved the smoke of battle, crossed the river northward, and settled in Baijuchang (now Baiju Town, Dafeng City), near the Yellow Sea. In September of the 27th year of Zhi Zheng (1367), Zhu Yuanzhang sent his military advisor Liu Bowen to invite Shi Nai'an to serve in office for a second time. Shi declined politely, citing old age and illness, then shut himself away to write, producing the world-renowned classic “Outlaws of the Marsh” (also known as “Water Margin”). The Shi Clan Ancestral Hall was originally built by Shi Wencan and other descendants of Shi Nai'an from his former residence. It features three courtyards connected by covered walkways, with upturned eaves and ornate brackets, giving it an elegant and majestic appearance. It was burned down by Japanese invading forces in 1938, but was restored in 1981. The interior displays important materials for the study of “Outlaws of the Marsh” and the genealogy of the Shi family, making it one of the city’s main cultural and tourism attractions.
