The Xisha Naval Battle Martyrs' Cemetery
The Xisha Naval Battle Martyrs' Cemetery is located in Yacheng Town, about 1 kilometer from the Yacheng exit of the West Expressway. It was built in 1975. On January 19, 1974, the Saigon authorities of South Vietnam, disregarding repeated warnings from the Chinese government, brazenly dispatched warships and aircraft to invade China's Xisha Islands. They fired on Chinese patrol vessels. The Chinese military resolutely carried out orders and fought back in self-defense, sinking one enemy frigate, damaging three enemy destroyers, recapturing Ganquan, Shanhu, and Jinhua islands, and annihilating all defending enemies. This marked a great victory in defending the nation's territorial sovereignty.
