Yanglang Dam
The Guizhou Xifeng Concentration Camp was a secret prison set up by the military intelligence agency of the Kuomintang during the Anti-Japanese War. It was composed of its main base in Yanglang Dam and the Xuantiandong detention site, and was originally the Nationalist government’s “Nanjing Military Prison.” From its establishment in November 1938 to its closure in July 1946, over 0 prisoners and more than 1,220 progressives were held there, with more than 600 being killed or tortured to death. In 1988, the State Council listed the former site of the Xifeng Concentration Camp as a Major Historical and Cultural Site Protected at the National Level. In 1996, the Guiyang municipal government invested in the restoration of the camp’s historical structures, and it was officially opened to the public in 1997. Not long ago, the Xifeng Concentration Camp Revolutionary History Memorial Hall was designated by the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee as one of the second group of National Patriotic Education Demonstration Bases.

The Xifeng Concentration Camp was a secret prison established by the military intelligence agency of the Kuomintang during the Anti-Japanese War, consisting of its main base in Yanglang Dam and the Xuantiandong detention site. Its predecessor was the Nationalist government’s “Nanjing Military Prison.” In 1927, after Chiang Kai-shek launched the April 12 Counterrevolutionary Coup, many prominent Communists and progressives were arrested and imprisoned in the Nanjing “Military Prison.” After the July 7 Incident, Chiang Kai-shek passively resisted Japan while actively opposing the Communists. He ordered the military intelligence agency to relocate these special prisoners to Wuhan, then shortly after to Yiyang in Hunan, and finally secretly detained them in Xifeng. From its establishment in November 1938 to its closure in July 1946, the Xifeng Concentration Camp held over 0 prisoners and more than 1,220 progressives, with over 600 being killed or tortured to death. It was the largest, most strictly managed, and highest-level among the three secret prisons run by the military intelligence agency at the time. The military spies referred to the Chongqing Wanglongmen Detention House as the “elementary school,” the Chongqing Baigongguan and Zhazidong prisons as the “middle school,” and the Xifeng Concentration Camp as the “university.”

Prominent revolutionaries were transferred from the “elementary school” to the “middle school,” and then further to the “university.” The spies called this process “advancing in school.”
