This tower was proposed for construction in 1938 by Captain Chen Jiong of the 1020th Regiment, 170th Division, which was stationed in Dayu Town. Its purpose was to commemorate the martyrs who died in the July 7th War of Resistance and the Seventy-Two Martyrs of Huanghuagang. The tower was renovated this spring.
