Tiaret
Tiaret is situated in central Algeria, west of Algiers, 150 kilometers from the Mediterranean coast. It serves as the capital of Tiaret Province, and its name means "Lion of North Africa" in the Berber language.
The area has been inhabited since ancient times, as evidenced by the remaining megalithic steles. The current city developed from French defensive structures built in 1845, attracting many French settlers. About 18 miles from Tiaret lies an eerie cemetery dating back to the 5th to 7th centuries.
