Jefferson Memorial
Introduction Built to commemorate Thomas Jefferson, the third President of the United States, construction began in 1938 under President Roosevelt and was completed in 1943. The memorial is designed in the neoclassical style of a Roman Pantheon-style dome, a 96-foot tall white marble structure. Every April, cherry blossoms bloom along the Tidal Basin near the memorial, and their reflection on the water creates a particularly beautiful scene.
