Union Station
Introduction Union Station has been in use since 1908 and was once the largest train station in the world. It now houses the headquarters of AMTEAK and sees the passage of both long-distance and commuter trains. It is one of Washington’s most iconic stations, designed by architect Daniel Burnham. Its exterior is modeled after ancient Roman architecture, and inside there is a shopping mall and food court, with over 120 retail outlets including clothing stores, bookshops, gift shops, travel supply stores, liquor stores, restaurants, and more. The station also offers a range of tourist services such as a visitor center, currency exchange, car rental, tour group information, shoe shining, coin-operated lockers, shuttle buses, and travel agencies.
