The hall faces east and features a double-courtyard, quadrangle layout, covering an area of 3,500 square meters with a built-up area of 2,561 square meters. It presents a closed, castle-like, multi-courtyard compound consisting of a front gate hall, main gate hall, ancestral worship hall, theater stage, courtyard, city walls, enclosing walls, wing rooms, arrow tower, and four corner watchtowers. At the center of the courtyard stands a nine-story, stone-and-wood structured, pavilion-style tower with triple eaves and a four-corner helmet roof. The tower reaches a total height of 37 meters, with the lower six stories constructed from stone and walls 1.3 meters thick. The architecture is grand in scale, rigorously laid out, and features an ancient, elegant, and majestic style. It boasts profound historical and cultural significance as well as a unique architectural artistry. As such, it has been listed by Chongqing Municipality as a provincial-level key cultural relics protection unit and is one of the key cultural landmarks in Yunyang County’s “one core, two wings” development plan.
The Peng Clan Ancestral Hall is a complex structure that combines the functions of a clan ancestral hall and a fortified stronghold, integrating purposes of ancestor worship, defense, and lodging. Its layout is rigorous, its scale grand, its form graceful and majestic, and its ornamentation exquisitely detailed. Inside the hall, there are 13 preserved stone carvings of calligraphy and paintings by the renowned modern Chinese artist Peng Juxing. It serves as an important cultural relic and historical material for studying the residential architectural style and artistic design of eastern Sichuan during the late Qing Dynasty.
