Supreme Court of the United States
Introduction The Supreme Court of the United States is the highest federal court in the country. It is located on East Capitol Street, with its grand entrance supported by 16 marble columns. On either side of the stone steps leading to the main west entrance are two statues carved by James Earle Fraser: “Contemplation of Justice” and “Guardian of Law.” The bronze doors that lead into the courtroom are each adorned with four relief panels depicting key events in the development of Western legal history. Behind the oak door at the end of the hallway lies the Supreme Court courtroom. The Court is composed of one Chief Justice and eight Associate Justices. According to the Constitution, Congress has the authority to alter the number of Associate Justices. Transportation
