Nowadays, a national equestrian performance is held every September in the square near the stables, attracting a large number of foreign tourists and equestrian enthusiasts. As early as the 4th century AD, Meknes was a thriving settlement. Delicate mosaics, sculptures, and kitchenware from that time still remain. Its magnificent architecture provides rich evidence of its long history. Although the ancient city's history has drawn architects, designers, and artists, Meknes and its surrounding environment have remained largely unchanged through the centuries.
At sunset, the afterglow of the western sky reflects off the city walls, casting the imperial city in a crimson glow. Visitors can relax amidst the lush gardens, pause by the tomb of the founder of the first Arab dynasty, or wander through the ruins of the ancient Roman city of Volubilis, immersing themselves completely in the history of Moulay Idriss.
