Ruxing Lou

Ruxing Lou is situated in the northern part of Hongkeng Village, facing Fuyu Lou across the Hongchuan Stream. Commonly known as the Rice Measure Tower, it was named after its scale and shape, which resemble an old bamboo container (commonly called a "rice measure") used in traditional times for measuring rice and grains. Built during the Guangxu era of the Qing Dynasty (1875–1908), it is a residential building of the Lin family. The structure faces west and is single-ring in layout, constructed with earth and wood, standing three stories tall with a diameter of 23 meters. Each floor has 16 rooms arranged along an inner corridor. The ground floor houses the kitchen and dining area without windows; the second floor also lacks windows and is used for grain storage, while the third floor contains bedrooms. The entire building has only one entrance, with the building gate, entrance hall, and rear hall (ancestral hall) all aligned along the central axis. A well is located within the inner courtyard. The roof is gabled and covered with tiles, supported by a hybrid wooden frame of post-and-lintel and beam-raising construction.
