Gongya Mountain Forest Eco-Tourism Area is located in Hua'an County in the southern part of Fujian Province, 28 kilometers from downtown Hua'an. It consists of Gongshen Peak and Qilin Peak, covering an area of 626.7 hectares. The area boasts rich forest resources and unique natural landscapes, known for its dense woods, majestic mountains, peculiar rocks, rare trees, beautiful waters, serene valleys, and unusual caves. The climate here is pleasant — in spring, wildflowers blanket the hills amid swirling white mist; in summer, the lush trees provide cool shade and a refreshing atmosphere; in late autumn, fruits hang abundantly from the branches, filling the air with fragrance; and in winter, a biting chill sets in, evoking a scene straight out of northern China. The area features countless exquisite stones, earning it the reputation of “the most wondrous rocky landscape in all of Fujian.” Notably,

“The Heavenly Dog Dreaming of the Moon” and “Turtles Racing Over the Mountains,”

  “Eagle Chasing the Chicks,”

and “Kingfisher Playing with Sand Shark” are among the lifelike and vivid natural animal-shaped rock formations. Renowned Chinese archaeologist Gai Shanlin, during his visit to Gongya Mountain for research, composed a poem: “Light clouds drift, and the mist hangs thick; a vast shroud veils the mountain’s face. All speak of the splendid scenery south of Zhangzhou, yet Gongya Mountain surpasses them all.” Celebrated Chinese photographers Xu Xiaobing and Hou Bo inscribed: “A Marvel of Fujian – Gongya Mountain in Hua'an.” Lü Houmin, former Vice Chairman of the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles and an outstanding global artist, wrote: “Gongya Mountain – A Premier Tourist Destination.” Zhang Yu, Vice Chairman of the China Photographers Association, Vice Chairman of the Fujian Federation of Literary and Art Circles, Chairman of the Fujian Photographers Association, and renowned photographer, has created numerous works here and inscribed: “The Divine Mountain’s Wondrous Scenery.” The area preserves over 5,000 acres of pristine tropical evergreen broadleaf forest, making it the best-preserved natural gene pool of flora and fauna in Fujian, aside from the two national nature reserves — Wuyi Mountain and Meihua Mountain. To date, 120 families, 273 genera, and 428 species of vascular plants have been identified here, along with 15 orders, 97 families, and 717 species of insects. Protected plant species include the key national treasures such as Amentotaxus argotaenia, Cunninghamia lanceolata var. konishii, Castanopsis hystrix, and Ormosia hosiei. Protected wildlife includes the nationally significant Python molurus, Manis pentadactyla, and Mandarin Duck. The area also boasts abundant butterfly species, including China’s unique Wide-tailed Swallowtail and Eyed Tiger Butterfly, as well as the world-famous Dead Leaf Butterfly. The forest is also home to a diverse range of higher basidiomycetes, primarily including Ramaria botrytis, Clitocybe species, Ganoderma, Dictyophora indusiata, and Russula species.

Gongya Mountain Forest Eco-Tourism Area is an important component of Hua'an National Forest Park and a creative base for Fujian photographers. It is an ideal destination for leisure vacations, summer retreats, artistic photography, hiking and fitness, cave exploration, water recreation, fishing for relaxation, forest immersion, and scientific research.
