Yangwatang Scenic Area is located 60 kilometers from the county town, upstream of the Kaiken River, at an altitude of 1,700 meters. It is surrounded by mountains on all sides, with verdant peaks like dark ink, emerald waters cascading like pearls, clouds and mist lingering in the air, and jagged peaks rising one after another. Tall poplar trees grow in the valley, and the riverbed is covered with colorful pebbles. On both banks lie grassy meadows as green as velvet, where various flowers bloom in competition—some red as fire, others white as snow—painting a beautiful picture.

The mists of Yangwatang take on unique characteristics in each season: in spring, they spread out as far as the eye can see, resembling a sea; in summer, they appear majestic and thick, like silver plates scattered among the trees; in autumn, they are soft as cotton and continuous as fluff; in winter, they blend with the snow-capped mountains, forming a unified whole.

Stepping into Yangwatang, if you climb a high mountain in the early morning, sunlight filtering through the mist will drape the earth in a rosy hue. When mountain rain comes, lightning flashes across the silent woods, dark clouds churn overhead, but soon the rain stops, the sky clears, the mist dissipates, and the mountain village looks freshly washed, lush and glistening. At dusk, willow trees along the riverbank sway in the wind, and the fragrance of milk tea wafts from the herders’ yurts. In the deep silence of night, the green mountains and pine forests are bathed in darkness, while the bright moon hangs in the sky, casting a transparent veil of moonlight over the landscape, making everything dreamlike. In Yangwatang, you can hike to Dabudiao and Xiaobudiao deep within the scenic area, where you might be greeted by the adorable Himalayan black bear, while wild goats on distant cliffs peer attentively. At night, light a bonfire, let your heart rise with the flames, and with the fire, you’ll become fully immersed in these grand mountains.
