The former site of the Soviet Government of Gan'nan Province and the former residence of Comrade Mao Zedong on the eve of the Long March — He Wu in the Beimen area of Yudu County town. The house was originally a civilian residence of the He family. The house is relatively spacious, with small courtyards in the front and back, totaling over thirty rooms, covering an area of 636 square meters. In July 1934, according to the needs of the revolutionary situation, the 0 Gan'nan Provincial Committee and the Soviet Government were established in Yudu County town, and the provincial Soviet organs were stationed here. The chairman of the Soviet Government of Gan'nan Province was Zhong Shibin, and the vice-chairman was Wang Fushan. The Soviet Government of Gan'nan Province included working departments such as the Department of Internal Affairs, Department of Finance, Department of National Economy, Department of Land, Department of Grain, Department of Labor, Department of Education, Department of Workers and Peasants Inspection, Department of Judiciary, and Political Security Bureau.
This place was also the former residence of Comrade Mao Zedong on the eve of the Long March. In early September 1934, Mao Zedong came to Yudu from Yunshi Mountain in Ruijin and stayed in the east wing of this house. Although not in the best health during this visit to Yudu, Mao Zedong still carried out his work in a tense yet orderly manner. He often went deep among the masses to conduct research and inspected and guided the work of the Soviet Government of Gan'nan Province. In this small hall, he personally presided over symposiums with poor workers and peasants, as well as with cadres from districts, townships, and villages. He spoke heart-to-heart with the attendees, learning about their living and production conditions, and educated the cadres of the Soviet Area to care about the lives of the masses, pay attention to working methods, diligently study Marxism-Leninism, voluntarily criticize themselves before the masses when they made mistakes, and regularly engage in criticism and self-criticism. During his time in Yudu, Mao Zedong was also entrusted by the then Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission to go to Luojiang, Xiaoxi, and other places to investigate enemy conditions. On September 20, he issued the “Mao Zedong’s Telegram on Enemy Activities in Xinfeng, Yudu, and Other Areas” from here, which provided an important decision-making basis for the deployment of the Red Army’s strategic transfer. On October 18, Mao Zedong left He Wu and crossed the Yudu River with the Central Column, embarking on the long journey of the Long March.
