Mingjiao Village

With a history of 500 years, Mingjiao Village is located by the Luojiang River and is a well-known model village in Guangdong Province, Maoming City, and Huazhou City. Its name carries deep meaning: “Renowned without exaggeration for loyalty, trust, filial piety, and virtue; teaching without distinction through poetry, books, rites, and music.” For 500 years, Mingjiao has nurtured generations of outstanding talents for the country and the nation. In ancient times, there were officials of the sixth rank in the imperial court; in modern times, there have been renowned experts, scholars, professors, and a number of department- and bureau-level officials. It’s no exaggeration to say that Mingjiao boasts breathtakingly beautiful mountains and waters. Surrounded by green hills on all sides and traversed by two rivers, the village is steeped in folklore: a “dragon” coils around the north of the village (Gao Tianlong and Longjingpo), a “tiger” guards the east (“Tiger Leaping Over the River” Ridge), a “crane” calls from the west (“Crane Beak Ridge”), and a “crab” watches over the south (the Crab Pond at Menqianpo). There are also scenic spots such as “Moon Reflected in Twin Bridges,” “Beauty Weaving Cloth,” “One-of-a-Kind Reversed Flow,” “Guardian Brush Peak,” and “Ancient Tree Village Treasure,” along with centuries-old traditional buildings in the village like the “Great Hall,” “Six Clan Houses,” “Shophouses,” and “Jinjiang Tower,” forming a stunning landscape. The village’s “puppet shows,” “ghost plays,” “lion dances,” “martial arts performances,”

“mountain song singing,” and other cultural activities retain a strong local flavor. The village’s cultural center, cultural park, cultural square, mountain park, and water park add a modern touch to this ancient, civilized village.

The Luojiang River and Guanming River flow gently by the village like emerald ribbons. There is a Backflow Bay, named for its calm waters where it’s hard to tell where the river comes from or goes to, giving the illusion that the water is flowing backward. Inside Backflow Bay lies a wide expanse of white sandy shoals, with lush green farmland lining the riverbanks.

Green hills and white clouds are reflected on the river, creating a picturesque scene of love between landscape and water. The Backflow Bay Natural Scenic Area, developed by relevant authorities, lies right by the bay. In addition to offering views of historical sites and natural scenery, it also features activities such as rock climbing, paintball, beach volleyball, fishing, the Giant’s Ladder, raft building, canoeing, and rafting. After playing, you can enjoy rustic fare like farm chicken and river fish at the Backflow Bay Tourist Hotel by the river. A warm greeting from the local girl waitresses might just get you tipsy before you even drink.

Returning to nature is what modern urbanites yearn for. The sky is vast, the water crystal clear, and the hustle and bustle of life feels far away. Lie in a riverside resort villa, listening to the rustling of pine trees and the chorus of frogs. Watch farmers busy in the fields and fishermen angling on the river, while crickets sing softly nearby. Forgetting all worldly fame and fortune, you’ll find pure joy in the harmony of it all.
