Shanghai Grand Stage, situated in the southwestern part of Shanghai opposite the well-known Huating Hotel, was originally named the Shanghai Gymnasium. As one of the major stadiums in China, it was built and put into use in 1975. The main hall is circular, standing 33 meters high with a roof truss spanning 110 meters in diameter, and has a seating capacity of 18,000 spectators. Shanghai Grand Stage was reconstructed from the Shanghai Gymnasium in October 1999 while retaining its original sports functions. The Grand Stage features an upper and lower level structure with an olive-shaped performance area. The stage spans a maximum effective width of 60 meters from side to side and 32 meters in depth, covering an area of approximately 1,250 square meters. It can accommodate around 8,000 to 10,000 spectators for large-scale cultural performances and up to 12,000 people for sporting events. Additionally, it can host large conferences for 5,000 to 10,000 people, medium-sized meetings for 2,000 to 5,000 attendees, or smaller gatherings for a few hundred people, making it the first theater-style multifunctional indoor stadium in China. The stage opening (with curtains) is 16 meters high and 28 to 42 meters wide (adjustable with side curtains). At the center of the stage, there are seven sets of large mechanical stages totaling 300 square meters. The ingenious design of these mechanical stages, along with comprehensive supporting facilities, offers the flexibility and basic infrastructure to create diverse stage effects for various large-scale events. The staff at Shanghai Grand Stage possess extensive experience in organizing major sporting events and performances, ensuring standardized, professional, and top-tier services for all partners.
