Taiji Peak

　　    Taiji Peak is situated between Bangliao Mountain and Shiping Mountain in Nansheng Town, in the southeastern part of Pinghe County, at 117°26′15″ east longitude and 24°15′00″ north latitude. It borders Zhangpu’s Shiliu Mountain Fortress to the east, leans against Shiping Mountain of Yilu in Nansheng to the west, connects to Xinmei in Wuzhai to the south, and neighbors the Tianzhu Ecological Reserve to the north. It lies 22 kilometers from Pinghe County, 30 kilometers from Pinghe County Town, 77 kilometers from Zhangzhou, and 48 kilometers from Zhangpu. A simple road of 12 kilometers has been opened up to the area. The region experiences an interplay of inland and marine climates, with an average temperature of 21°C, a maximum of 35°C, and a minimum of -2°C. Annual precipitation ranges from 1,700 to 2,100 millimeters. The area boasts a rich variety of plant species, including trees, shrubs, bamboo, and grass, with vegetation coverage exceeding 65%. It features dense forests and a diverse range of wild animals. The terrain consists of Yanshan-period magma layers, most of which are acidic or moderately acidic rock types. These form unusual rock formations through outcrops, rock masses, and small rock knobs, creating a naturally spectacular landscape. The main peak, Taiji Peak, stands at an elevation of 982 meters. The scenic area includes twelve attractions: Bangliao Reservoir, Rock Pit, Golden Monkey’s Handprint, Chicken Cage Mountain, Red Granny Stone, Dog-Broken Peak, Water Chicken Stone, Stone Bamboo Shoot Peak, Taiji Peak, Dingdi Lake’s Purple Bamboo Temple, and the site of the former Min-Yue Border Special Committee. Covering an area of 18 square kilometers, this was once the base of operations for the Min-Yue Border Special Committee and the Red Third Regiment during revolutionary times. Taiji Peak Scenic Area serves not only as a patriotic education base for young people but also as an excellent destination for sightseeing and leisure.
