Yangmùqiáozi Battle Site

　　    It is now located at Shadong Station, about three kilometers southwest of Suiyang Town, where the forestry railway department of the Suiyang Forestry Bureau is situated. Heading south for twenty-one kilometers leads to Yangmù Station, then turning northwest and traveling another four kilometers, you’ll find a sizable clearing in the deep valley — this is the former battlefield where the Anti-Japanese Allied Forces once dealt a heavy blow to the puppet Manchukuo forest police squad: Yangmùqiáozi (now known as Desheng). In those days, the area around Yangmùqiáozi was pristine forest, surrounded by towering mountains where pine and cypress trees blocked out the sun. After the Japanese invaders arrived, in order to expand their aggressive operations, they fiercely exploited the timber resources here, establishing a forest administration office and a forest police squad. Tens of thousands of laborers, either deceived into coming or forcibly conscripted, were made to carry out concentration camp-style logging under the bayonets of the Japanese and puppet forces. The lush, verdant primeval forests were shrouded in fascism, and the beautiful landscape lost its vibrancy. After a fierce battle against the enemy at Hongshilazi in Linkou County, over two hundred and sixty soldiers from the 5th Regiment of the 2nd Route Army and the 2nd and 3rd Divisions of the 1st Route Army of the Anti-Japanese Allied Forces found themselves being pursued by enemy forces several times their number. The troops crossed the Binzhou-Suifenhe Railway and shifted toward the Dongning area, successfully shaking off the enemy and arriving near Yangmùqiáozi. In order to resupply, Ji Qing and Chai Shirong, based on information provided by workers, devised a specific battle plan, and the unit decided to attack Yangmùqiáozi. The victory at the Yangmùqiáozi battle dealt a heavy blow to the enemy. Over ten rifles and handguns, more than a thousand rounds of ammunition, five military horses, and a large quantity of grain were seized, and one radio set was destroyed, all while not a single soldier from our side was lost. The Battle of Yangmùqiáozi boosted the public’s confidence in resisting the war. People whispered secretly, “At this rate, the devils will soon be finished.”
