Yangmei Millennium Ancient Trees Scenic Area

The Yangmei Millennium Ancient Trees Scenic Area is situated in Yangmei Village, Chenglong Town, in the southern part of Longnan County, about 20 kilometers from the county seat, with a total area of 8 square kilometers. In 1996, the Niujitan Hydropower Station was built on the Taojiang River basin within the scenic area. The upstream section is 7 kilometers long, with the river surface spanning 100 to 150 meters. The water is crystal clear and rippling, surrounded by beautiful landscapes, lush pines and bamboos, peculiar rocks, ancient trees, birdsong, and floral fragrances, resembling a paradise on earth. It stands as a uniquely picturesque natural sightseeing area featuring lake and mountain scenery among Longnan’s tourism resources.
The area boasts a rich variety of attractions, including Mirror Lake, the Millennium Ancient Tree Cluster, Wumei Mountain Nunnery, Sanhe Ancient Temple, Baogai Rock, Monk Rock, Magpie Cliff, and the Piercing Stone Waterfall, totaling 22 scenic spots.
Walking into the Millennium Ancient Tree Cluster, you’ll find ancient trees towering into the sky, with dense foliage covering the ground like an expansive green canopy, spanning nearly a hundred acres. According to research, most of the tree species in this cluster are bitterwood trees, along with precious varieties such as red maple, yellow sandalwood, red ballwood, carved hornwood, and osmanthus. Some trees have a trunk diameter of over 3 meters, while the average is around 2 meters.
What best represents the ancient ecological features are the aerial roots connected to the tree trunks. These roots take on various shapes, resembling dragons lying at rest on the ground beneath the trees. There are also ancient vines clinging to the old trees, twisting and draping down, highlighting the purity of pristine nature. This unique natural landscape leaves visitors mesmerized and in awe.
