Mount Xiaowudang (Longnan Wudang Mountain)
Longnan Wudang Mountain, also called Mount Xiaowudang, is a provincial-level scenic area. Situated 45 kilometers from Longnan County at the junction of Jiangxi and Guangdong provinces, it is a scenic destination that combines Danxia stone forest landscapes with Buddhist culture. Covering an area of 13.5 square kilometers, its main peak stands at an elevation of 864 meters. The western side of the mountain is traversed by National Highway 105, and it lies 220 kilometers from Guangzhou.

The towering peaks, bathed in warm sunlight, make the Danxia stone forest—resembling swords and spears—even more dazzling. As you slowly ascend the stone steps, looking up at the mountain range, the majestic and awe-inspiring sight unfolds. The rugged, upright stone peaks resemble heavenly soldiers descending to earth. The main peak strikingly resembles two elephants soaring through the sky; the grotesque and steep rocks transform into a golden turtle devouring the mountain; the “Lovers’ Peak” looks like a pair of long-lost lovers embracing and whispering their affection; beneath the “General’s Peak,” five charming fairies, draped in misty, rainbow-colored robes, are kneeling to offer birthday wishes to the Queen Mother of the West... There are numerous attractions on Mount Xiaowudang, such as “Heaven’s Slit,” “Monks Worshipping,” “Monkey Making an Appearance,” “Pillar of Stability,” “Southern Heaven Jade Screen,” “Rainbow over the Cold Valley,” and “Sky Corridor.” The mountain features a myriad of unique landscapes, resembling a magnificent ten-mile scroll that vividly showcases the wonders of nature. These endless stone peaks were formed during the Paleozoic era, the result of tectonic movements over 200 million years ago.

Longnan Wudang Mountain is located south of Longnan County, covering an area of 13.5 square kilometers. Its main peak rises 813 meters above sea level, with 99 peaks standing in a continuous, spear-like formation. The oddly shaped and uniquely angled rocks include a pair of peaks that stand side by side like sisters holding hands, which is particularly breathtaking. Among the peaks, winding paths twist and turn. At the southern end, one peak has an iron chain hanging from it, allowing adventurous visitors to climb to the summit by pulling themselves up. Midway up the peak, clouds drift ethereally, while the summit offers a vast view stretching for dozens of miles. The top connects with the rear peak, enclosing an area of several dozen acres where a temple with red eaves and flying rafters nestles among the scenery, picturesque and serene. Towering pines and cypresses surround the area, lush and green.

The peaks of Mount Xiaowudang are graceful and majestic, rising layer upon layer like swords and halberds pointing to the sky. The vast and imposing stone forest corridor is divided into three major areas—“Wudang’s Premier Site,” “Layered Green Valley of Mist,” and “South Sea Command Post”—encompassing ten scenic zones and ninety-four individual sites.
