Silver Chain Waterfall

Silver Chain Waterfall is situated downstream of Huangguoshu Waterfall, at the entrance to the river mouth whirlpool beneath Sancha River — the legendary site where “the dragon and rhinoceros grappled.” It is a type of sinkhole waterfall. Located within the Water Stone Forest area of Tianxingqiao Scenic Zone, the waterfall is shaped like a basin, sounds like a song, and resembles a chain. Among the Huangguoshu Waterfall cluster, it doesn’t win by height, breadth, or sheer size, but rather captivates visitors with its delicate, thread-like tendrils and its mournful, melodious cascading sound that makes people never want to leave. The waterfall is just over ten meters high, with a funnel-shaped upper section and a trough-like karst pool at the bottom. The raised stone mounds along the edge of the pool look like overlapping lotus leaves, interlocked in layers. The river water spreads evenly across each “leaf,” flowing freely as if countless large and small silver chains are gently murmuring as they slowly descend into the karst pool — an endless sight. The waters of Sancha River are split into strands of bead-like chains by calcified shoals before plummeting into the deep pool, making it the most exquisite waterfall in the Huangguoshu Waterfall group.
