Sanchakou West Hill Soviet Red Army Martyrs' Monument

　　The Sanchakou West Hill Soviet Red Army Martyrs' Monument is situated on the mountaintop of West Hill in Sanchakou Village, Sanchakou Town, Dongning County, Mudanjiang City. GPS coordinates: latitude 44°00′27.2", longitude 131°13′02.2", at an altitude of 180 meters. In February 1945, the leaders of the United States, the United Kingdom, and the Soviet Union held a conference in Yalta, where the Soviet Union pledged to launch an offensive against Japan within 2–3 months after Germany’s surrender. In the early hours of August 9, 1945, Soviet forces entered Northeast China and attacked Dongning, delivering a devastating blow to the Japanese army. To commemorate the Soviet Red Army martyrs who sacrificed their lives in Dongning, the Soviet Army erected this monument in November 1945. It stands 8 meters tall, with a front width of 0.8 meters and side widths of 0.8 meters. The structure is built from bricks with a cement finish and consists of four parts: 1) The base — shaped like a five-pointed star, with a corner-to-corner distance of 20 meters; 2) The steps — square in shape, with the bottom layer measuring 3.05 meters in length and width and 0.2 meters in height per step, and the upper layer measuring 1.55 meters in length and width; 3) The inscription plaque — 1.10 meters tall and 0.90 meters wide on all sides; 4) The main body of the monument — approximately 3 meters tall, with the five-pointed star at the top now missing. The site occupies 660 square meters of mountain land, with a constructed area of 82.4 square meters. Inscriptions include: North side of the tower: “Glory to the Russian People” (in Russian); East side of the tower: “Glory to Stalin!” (in Russian); South side of the tower: “Glory to the Russian Army”; On the face of the tower: ☆ The Sanchakou West Hill Soviet Red Army Martyrs’ Monument is a testament to the significant historical event of the Soviet Red Army’s liberation of Dongning.
